Some considerations before hiring a coach
Other things you may want to know
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
| If you are considering hiring a coach it is likely you will be making profound shifts in your life and it it important to remember changes create ripples. Please give consideration to the way the changes you seek to make may affect the significant relationships in your life. You may wish to discuss your decision to hire a coach, or at least your decision to set strong goals for yourself, with those who are closest to you – particularly if you anticipate those individuals will be directly affected by the shifts you make. If this is a concern for you, please make sure to discuss this with me during your introductory private consultation. |
Preparing for Coaching, including the initial consultation
It is very important you consider the commitment you are making to yourself when you begin working with a coach. No matter who you choose to work with, grant yourself the space and time you need so you can reach your goals quickly. This may mean that you need to set firmer boundaries in your life and expect others to respect your right to say no. If you have trouble with this, coaching can help you develop this skill. This is a significant investment. It is important that you be able to make yourself a priority for coaching to be most effective
Don't be surprised. I want you to benefit from your contact with me starting with the very first call. For this reason, I will provide a pre-consultation prep form which will allow you to give me some background information so you can get the most out of our initial meeting. This will allow us both to be confident in our ability to judge whether coaching is the right course of action for you and whether I, specifically, am the best match for your needs.

If we do decide to work together, I will provide you with a workbook and some introductory materials to help you come to coaching focused and prepared to get full benefit of our time together. I recommend that starting with your first session you give yourself a 10-minute “breather” prior to the coaching call to help you focus so that you can get the maximum benefit from the hour. Additionally, try to design your call space to ensure minimal distractions. I encourage you to get in the habit of
walking, by yourself, for at least 20 minutes, several times a week.
Fresh air, sunlight, exercise, and time for you to be alone with your thoughts…the
benefits are endless. Please
consider establishing this habit.

Many of my clients keep a journal of their sessions. This is an excellent technique for you to track your progress and identify important issues you would like to address. It’s also a wonderful place to explore your thoughts between sessions and a great creative outlet. You may wish to treat yourself to a new journal and a great pen prior to our first session together.
