Wondering if you are ready for coaching?

The items below will help you make an honest self-assessment of your readiness. I did not make up a scoring system to tell you what to do with your answers. Only you can look into your own mirror.  This will help you think of criteria you may want to consider before making the investment.

This is the right time for me to work with a coach.

I am fully willing to do the work involved to achieve my goals.

I am motivated to make changes and will follow through with the commitments I make to my coach.

I can be relied on to be on time for calls and appointments.

I have adequate funds for coaching and will not regret or second-guess the investment. I see coaching as an investment in my life that I am fully willing to make.

I am willing to try new ideas and ways of doing things.

I will be honest and open with my coach.

If I feel I am not getting what I want, need or expect from my coach, I will address this as soon as possible and ask for what I need from the relationship.

I see coaching as something to integrate in my life and commit to doing the work involved to make sure I get full benefit from the experience.

If I feel unable or am unwilling to do what my coach asks of me, I will discuss this honestly and openly.

I am excited about working with a coach. I do not see the need for coaching as a negative in any way.

I will work hard to eliminate any self-defeating behaviors that may block me from reaching my goals.

I believe I am capable of having the life I desire.

I am completely accountable for the results I produce.

I do not whine, complain or make excuses. Instead I look for reasons, explanations and creative ways to remove obstacles from my path.

I am not looking to my coach to give me a cure for laziness or lack of initiative.  I am hiring a coach because I want to achieve certain things, not because I have a vague sense that it would be good for me.

I know I may have to learn to crawl before I can run and understand that working on my personal foundation and clearing unfinished business will be important to building a solid future.

I am strongly committed to personal development.

I view coaching calls as an opportunity to work deeply on issues in my life, not as “chats” with a friend for hire. I expect to come away from the call having gained at least one insight and to have at least one significant action I will make as a result of the session.

I am able to bounce back from setbacks.

I understand life is an experiment and welcome my coach as a fellow researcher who will help me evaluate the results of my experimentation.  I do not think in terms of success or failure but rather progress, learning and personal evolution.
